I teach Electric, Bass, Classical and Acoustic guitar from beginner to advanced. Most styles are covered, all ages welcome, whether you are looking to learn for fun or want to get grades. I bridge the gaps for beginners, explaining techniques that can be taken for granted and get new students playing some simple music by the 1st if not 2nd lesson. Musical satisfaction is a motivator for progress. Theory is put into an applicable context as knowing its practical uses can make it interesting. My teaching approach varies depending on the student’s interests and strengths/weaknesses. I have written method books bringing various subjects together that would otherwise be in separate books, as well as incorporating my own methods. Many of the ideas within are influenced from lessons I give and questions students ask. For more information on the books I’ve written please go to my Guitar books and eBooks website. I have plenty of hand-outs on specific areas such as fingerpicking or EZ chords for the complete beginner, and over 100 other books to supplement other areas such as Funk guitar, walking basslines, Bass slap and pop, Classical, Sight reading, Jazz and more. If you bring in music you would like to learn on CD or mp3 I can work it out by ear then teach you it, and can help with transcriptions.
Sight Reading I teach the rhythmical aspect of conventional notation to all students, as guitar tab does not accomodate for this, which is why very often it is accompanied with conventional notation. Sight-reading is mostly particular to Classical guitar but I can teach it fully to any students who wish to learn. Grades I can teach grades from Rockshool, RGT, Trinity, ABRSM, for Electric, Bass, Acoustic or Classical. Debut to grade 8 are on offer from the Rockschool Trinity syllabus for Guitar or Bass.  Each Rockschool grade book contains several musical pieces (from which you choose three for the exam) in various styles with full band demo and backing track. Rockschool grades also include technical exercises (scales), chords, sight-reading, improvisation, ear tests and musicianship questions. A guitar solo is not required within the musical pieces until grade 3 and upward. Practise Practise is important. You should aim to do some every week!
